Pants on Fire / Tommy Sullivan is a freak - Meg Cabot

The funny part about the title is : Tommy Sullivan isn't a freak. He's actually a tall, sensitive gorgeous guy who is picked on for being who he is. For doing the right thing. And for being truthful. And in the beginning, that just pissed me off.

When Meg started on Seth's character, with his

"...smile that’s been making girls’ insides melt since about the fifth grade, when we all started noticing Seth’s even white teeth and highly kissable lips," I knew every single teen girl in the world who has read this book and has even an ounce of hormone in their body would be falling. Hard. And don't even get me started on Eric. *sigh*

I, of course, had a sneaky feeling that if Katie really had everything in place already, (the popular boyfriend, a job that pays relatively well and a friend obsessed with fashion), there wouldn't be a story.

As things get more complicated, I got more hooked because that's what girls love. Unrealistic, romantic, twisted stories where kisses last forever and betrayal is regarded as the epitome of evil. Its shallow to love, I agree (to a certain extent) , but we love it. And I doubt that will ever change.

But have you ever read a chick-lit book where the narrator is the one that cheats? I bet there are few books out there that are like that. That's what made me realize how real this book was. Normally, the heroine is perfect. Perfect everything. Perfect family, friends and EVERYTHING. Somewhere, I began to realize that the reason people love Meg's books is because they're realistic. And maybe she writes so well because she was Katie.

After reading her website thoroughly, I found it. She tells her fans that some parts of this book actually happened when she was twenty. And that just made me respect her more. Because she had the guts to let people know that. And everyday, only 1 baby in a 100 is born with courage. And this babe had courage.

When Katie gets on stage and decides to reveal how much she has lied in the entire book (and I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say that's a LOT), I couldn't help but want to shout at her, STUPID STUPID STUPID...

Telling the person you lied to, the truth = good.

Telling the WHOLE TOWN the truth before the people who actually need to know it first= Not so good. Not so good at all.

At least she gets to be with Tommy in the end. Or I would have made it a personal goal to hunt Meg down and force her to re-write the ending.

Geesh

The Princess Diaries (Book 1) - Meg Cabot

Meg Cabot = The only adult that seems to understand the rants of a normal teenager (girls)

Therefore,

Meg Cabot = Worshiped by every teen girl (dead or alive)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was 14 when I heard about the series and being a tomboy then, I was skeptical, I must admit. But when I opened the glossy, bright pink (and girly *shudder*) cover to read the first words, quote,

"Sometimes it seems like all I ever do is lie. My mom thinks I'm repressing my feelings about this..."

I knew I was wrong. I shouldn't have been skeptical at all.
I was dead right, on my opinion of the book. Then again there was a reason that saying Never judge a book by its cover, was created. So I surged on.

I think Meg understands how hard it is to be a teenager and every situation we go through, comes out clearly in the book. Some people might claim that the book's idea of using characters like Mia (the dork) and Lana (the Queen Bee and Fashion plate) maybe cliche but I think Meg added a whole new twist to the deal.
I mean, fine, Mia isn't happy finding out she was actually a princess. But who cares?? Not everyone finds out they may one day rule a country. Let alone anyone whining about it when they DID find out. Mia is just weird that way.

Mia's personality = The Twist in The Tale.

That + Lilly, Mia's best friend, definitely made the story a hell of a lot more interesting. Lilly has the balls of a bull, pardon the language. But it true.
I think having a friend, let alone a best friend, who has the guts to tell you you suck in front of your face, is heaven sent. Because then, maybe the friend who is at the receiving end of this criticism might take it in their stride and be a better person.
If they are willing to make the effort that is, which I think Mia wants to.....but mostly does not. All she does is write it in her Things To Do lists, which is a start, but hardly note-worthy.

Lana's character, of course, was 100% cliche. Right down to the snogging Jock Josh in front of Mia's locker part. And her surname, Weinberger (or WHINEberger), suits Mia more than it does Lana. Mia is the biggest whiner I've ever read about. She has everything a teen needs. Good friends, family and a 25 pound ginger cat. What kid could ask for more? Mia, it seems.

Not that she's a bad person. She isn't. The whole Green Peace thing? Totally heart felt (even though a tad unrealistic for the ambitions of a teen, since all teens want to do today, is make it big in Hollywood. That includes me too. No regrets or shame in admitting it).

Her reaction to her mother's relationship to her teacher, though the reaction Mia gave was totally realistic, I feel, was totally unfair. I mean, give Helen a break! She needs a good love life too. And she probably imagines what she wants her love life to be the same way Mia does.

Like mother, like daughter.

As for Grandmere : No comments.

Not yet anyway.....

First ever post

Okay, my friend, Sukanya, who is by the way a really good writer, started a blog on blogspot (www.losers-like-us.blogspot.com) to write about her opinions on stuff or situations she can relate to. She had advised me to start a blog of my own. And now I have.

I love books. As simple as that. Be it a novel, ebook or audiobook, I can sit through an entire night, reading in bed or on the computer with music in the background. It's my idea of a perfect holiday. So, since I love to read so much, I gave writing a try. And it was a rocky start. But I'm hoping I'll get better with time.

So this blog, Bisecting Books, literally, is going to be my opinions on all the books I've read (sophisticated or not, for my age or not) because that's just what I love to do. And if you feel there's a certain book I should read and give opinions on, suggestions are 100% Willkommen (welcome, if you didn't already get it)

So here's to all those who are going to take the trouble of reading my blog....and to those who gave that idea a bit of thought but didn't in the end....

Je bois a votre sante..

Cheers
